Details | A centitonne (ct) is a unit of mass, which is often used in the field of energy to describe the mass of a certain amount of TNT, an explosive material. TNT (trinitrotoluene) is widely used as a reference because of its stable and well-known properties. In the context of energy, we often discuss the energy yield of an explosion in terms of "tons of TNT equivalent." This describes the amount of energy that is released when such an amount of TNT explosively detonates, allowing us to compare the energy output of different explosive materials or events.
