Unit nph
Name nanophot
Category Illuminance
Details A nanophot (nph) is a non-SI unit used to measure illuminance, which is the amount of light that falls on a surface. The term "nanophot" comes from the combination of "nano" and "phot," where nano represents one-billionth and phot is another unit of illuminance. 1 phot is equal to 1 lumen per square centimeter, while 1 nanophot is equal to one-billionth of a lumen per square centimeter, or 10^-9 lumens/cm².

While modern lighting systems and calculations rely on the SI unit known as lux (lumens per square meter), nanophots and other non-SI units like foot-candles were previously used to express illuminance values. However, estimating illuminance using these units is now discouraged due to the adoption of the SI system worldwide.
