Unit Plx
Name petalux
Category Illuminance
Details A petalux (Plx) is a unit of illuminance in the International System of Units (SI). Illuminance refers to the amount of light that falls on a surface, and it is commonly used to describe how well-lit an area is. One petalux is equal to 10¹⁵ lux, where lux is the basic unit of illuminance in the SI system.

Lux is defined as the amount of light received by a surface per unit area, or lumens per square meter (lm/m²). Petalux is a larger unit used to describe extremely high levels of illuminance, as it represents one quadrillion (10¹⁵) lux. In practice, however, this unit is rarely used, as its size is too large for most real-world applications. For typical lighting situations, units like lux or foot-candles are much more commonly used.
